Will changing our dog’s food really make a difference in 30 days. Can you create a healthy dog in 30 days?
After finishing my pet nutrition specialist certification, I wanted to see if changing out our dog food would create a more healthy dog. Thankfully, our dogs are in good health, they have been eating a really good food, but I felt I could do better. When looking for a holistic solution, I found pawTree. This is our journey to determine if changing out his dog food and adding in high quality supplements would make a difference in his overall health in just 30 days.

I decided that Biscuit and Bacon would join me on this journey. It wasn’t feasible to throw in all of my babies into the mix, so I picked out two. Biscuit has been fairly healthy so I will really have to be in-tuned to see his changes. He will be changing foods/adding supplements. Bacon is healthy, but he is skinny! I have been told that adding Salmon Oil to their diets will help them stay at a healthy weight along with many other benefits.

Getting Everything Together – Dogs and Products
We start our journey to a healthy dog with good food and supplements from pawTree! Here is a list of the products we will be using:

- pawTree Pairings in various flavors
- Gastro Plus
- Ear Dry/Ear Wash
Bacon’s Blend
Bacon is moving to the pawTree food with added Salmon Oil two times a day. Remember he is skinny and we want to add some additional weight. I would also like to see his coat shiny! It seems dull.
Biscuit’s Bytes
Biscuit will be moving from his current food over to the new pawTree Salmon food. He will have Salmon Oil, Gastro Plus, and pawPairings added two times a day to each meal.
Bacon received his normal serving of food and two pumps of Salmon Oil for each of his meals. HE scarfed it down very quickly!!!! Bacon is NOT at all picky! He will eat anything! 🙂 The most wonderful initial consequence of this change is that Biscuit went from NOT eating his food regularly to getting excited about meal time. I was absolutely blown away by how much he LOVED his pawTree food and pawPairing!

Day 1 – Saturday
We start our 30 day journey on Saturday! Today we upload some photos and assess the overall health of our pooches! Biscuit looks great from a weight and health perspective, but there are some things I would like to see improve. Here is what I am hoping for Biscuit:
- Shiny Coat
- Less Shedding
- Less Tartar on teeth
- Increased interest in food
- Weight – maybe to trim a few lbs
Bacon is too skinny! We really want to add some meat on his bones. This was the best I could do for photos this morning – he never stops moving! 🙂 Here are the things we would like to improve with Bacon.
- Weight – he needs to gain weight
- Coat – It is very dull!
- Hunger – He acts like he is constantly starving even though we continue to be negative for parasites!
Day 2 – Sunday
Today I have a few positive results to report. Both Biscuit and Bacon love the food! This is NOT a win for since he will eat anything, but 2 days later Biscuit still is eating 2 times a day. I was lucky to get him to eat once a day before! Biscuit had some digestive issues since we moved him to the food much more quickly than Bacon. Within 6 hours of giving him Gastro Pro, all issues were solved!!! We are definitely on our way to create a healthy dog!
We live in the country so it common for our kids to get into “gross things” . This weekend Trudy found some dead Coyote. The next day after their “feast” usually led to us cleaning up some pretty nasty doggie diarrhea out of crates! I gave Trudy 2 Gastro Pro Plus tablets with her meal and NO clean up Sunday Morning! This was a big win!!!
Week 1
Realistically, I know this will be a slow process and I might not see DAILY changes initially. I still wanted to keep the updates coming on our journey to create a healthy dog.
One consistent win I have seen for Biscuit is that he WANTS his food everyday! I used to buy him a 30 lb bag every 4-5 months, and now I realize I might actually have to buy him food every month! He didn’t want his kibble! It is a huge win to know he is getting GREAT nutrition everyday. After almost a week, I have noticed his fur is not as dry! I am started to feel a change in Texture!
Bacon continues to LOVE his food. It seems like he is starting to add a little weight, but it is too early to tell. We will be back on Saturday with our week 2 update.
Week 2
We had a great second week on pawTree! Biscuit’s coat continues to improve and Bacon’s coat is starting to get shiny! Biscuit continues to love his food and the wide variety of pawPairings! No more left over food in the bowl! No more digestive issues!
Week 3
We had a great 3rd week on pawTree. We started with some changes for Bacon. I decided since I really wanted to build his weight, I would move him to a food that has more carbohydrates. I am looking forward to this change! He continues to do very well on the Salmon Oil.
For Biscuit, it was time for his yearly trip to the vet. He normally is very anxious on any car ride so I decided to give him a Chillax. I couldn’t believe the difference! He was so calm and chill in the car! Instead of trying to crawl up in my lap the entire time, he just laid beside me! His coat continues to improve and HE LOVES his food!
