I am a dog mom: 5 reasons why I’m a crazy dog mom, whether you like it or not
I am a dog mom. That’s it, That’s all. I don’t have grown kids, I don’t have kids on the way, in fact, I don’t want kids AND I am over 40. I am a dog mom! I am not a part time dog mom but the REAL DEAL! I AM ROCKING the DOG MOM life – MY DOGS are my reason to get up everyday ( and of course my hubby) and every decision I make is to give them a better life.
I support animal advocacy and dog related charities – My facebook posts are mostly dog related, my blog is dog related, My dogs live a better life than me and many people I know and I don’t care if you care!!!! Are you offended yet? Or Maybe you can relate. π
Reason 1 – I am a dog mom, sorry, I don’t want my own kids
It seems these days, people are expected to live their lives a certain way. I think most of us were raised with some illusion that we would marry the man of dreams and be a stay at home mom. But what about those that don’t fit into our little American dream. At what point do my friends, family and the general public just accept me for what I am, a die-hard, 100% happy over the moon dog mom!I There was NEVER a point in my life I can remember wanting kids, but I did image myself as a marine biologists surrounded by beautiful sea creatures or a Zoo Keeper or an animal trainer.
In my 20s, I never once thought about having a family. I was happy and content just to be married. AND I was – several times….. not my proudest accomplishment, but hey – we all make mistakes. Even in those failed relationships, there was never a serious talk about children. People always told me this magical clock would start ticking. I kept right on whizzing through life never hearing any clock.
Reason 2: I want a big family, a dog mom family
In my 30s, I met the love of my life and after about 5 years of marriage, we started our family. It grew and grew and grew. Not like you are thinking, but exactly as I had always hoped. My house is like a crazy dog kennel or a dog park on a beautiful summer afternoon. Like all good parents, we make the best decisions we can for our family. When we outgrew our yard in 2014, we opted for the country life and have never looked back.
5 Acres, 13 dogs, 2 cats, a creek, and now a few classroom fish, it’s my idea of heaven. I have never been happier. Funny how I never actually heard that ticking clock? Sometimes I wonder am I broken. There were points I was tired of trying to explain to people why I didn’t want the standard american dream, but now, I just don’t even bother. I just tell people, I am a dog mom.
In all sincerity, My heart does hurt so much for the women that do want to have children but are denied that dream. So people choose the dog mom life and sometimes it is chosen for you. I want people to live their lives by their vision and I can’t imagine how it feels to have that empty space…….
Reason 3: Dogs are like kids that you don’t have to send to college
Honestly, I do love spending time with kids. In fact, every year now I have 150 of my own to nurture and grow throughout the year, but it still does not make me long for my own. My kids and I always joke about it at the beginning of the year. I tell them I am a dog mom and they totally get it! They know I love them but I am that gal that would totally put the sticker on my car that says my dog is smarter than your honor student – I mean, he is, isn’t he????
I am a dog mom, all my money, love, time and attention goes to my dogs! My dogs go to see Santa, they go to see the Easter bunny, Halloween contests, professional photos, dog parks, Easter egg hunts, pet stores, farmers markets, lakes, ponds, water parks, restaurants, church, family dinners and so on and so on. My dogs are just like those amazing kiddos I have every year, only furrier and sometimes a bit more compliant! Folks! I am a dog mom – We bought a swimming pool FOR our dogs! I am just sayin!
Reason 4: All of my time, money, energy, resources goes to the dogs, because I am a dog mom
Lets be honest, pretty much all of my resources goes to the dogs! Hey, I am a dog mom! I rescued and fostered for years, started a business for dogs, professionally photographed dogs at shelters, share dogs, donate to rescue and most of my life at some point just revolves around dogs. Speaking for those that can’t speak for themselves drives me. If there is something that I can do to help out a few dogs in need, if it requires money, time or resources, I usually have done it or will find a way to do it. It is one of my cornerstone beliefs.
Currently I am creating all kind of fun SVG, sewing, and embroidery projects just for dog moms. Keep an eye on our blog and ETSY page for new Dog Mom accessories that show the world you LOVE being a dog mom! We are just getting started, but good stuff will follow!
Reason 5: I don’t need your acceptance
At some point we all realize we do not need other people’s acceptance or validation to live a kick ass life!
I am over feeling awkward that my life doesn’t look like yours. Even though at some point in my life it felt awkward, I realize that was just my own insecurities. Here’s to not worrying about every awkward family gathering where you are the only woman without kids or every Sunday at church where you feel like you don’t fit in married with no kids.
The truth is WE DON’T FIT and that is the amazing truth.
Finally, for the love of labs, quit worrying about all of your friends with kids telling you that you need a couple! IT’S A TRICK!!!!!Here’s a little piece of truth, We don’t need to be like them to fit in. The truth is we DON’T “FIT” in, so who cares! There is room in this world for people of all walks of life, and I am not entitled to judge. I am happy being a dog mom – and if you know a REAL DEAL dog mom, I bet she is happy to – so hey, don’t judge !
If you are a REAL DEAL dog mom that is rocking that dog mom life, then you have found the right place. I WANT to hear from you – Drop me a comment down below and tell me I am not alone!
I KNOW I am not not the only one that will say I’m a crazy dog mom, whether you like it or not. I don’t plan to apologize! Tick Tock little CLOCK! π I am WITHOUT a doubt the CRAZY Dog mom that people have warned you about and I am damn proud of it! Want to know more – check out our about page.
