Have you heard of Omega-3 and Omega-6? Most pet owners know that fatty acids are essential for their pet’s diets, but they don’t always know why and which ones. If you are a reader of my blog, you already know that I LOVE providing Salmon Oil to my dog. In fact, it is one of my top 3 recommended supplements.
Providing a high quality salmon oil for your dog is a great way to increase fatty acid’s in your pet’s diet, but you need to make sure you are getting a higher ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. At the end of the day, the ratio does matter to your pet. If you LOVE consuming your information in Video – check out my YouTube Video on YouTube or at the end of the article.
Here are 3 reasons why you should include more omega-3 fatty acids in your pet’s diet.
Pets can’t produce omega-3 fatty acids on their own
Omega fatty acids create hormones that regulate blood flow and inflammation. Like humans, pets can’t produce their own omega-3 fatty acids and must get them from their diets. Omega-3 is most often found in fish, but can also be found in shellfish, oils, and some seeds. Since these fatty acids play an important role in your pet’s health, it is important to supplement them as needed.
Omega-3 fatty acids balance out Omega-6 fatty acid
Unlike Omega-3, most pets receive plenty of Omega-6 in their current diet. Omega-6 is found in meat from corn-fed animals or refined oil which are often staples in a normal pet’s diet. This results in pets that have an OVER ABUNDANCE of omega-6 in their diets. Although it is important to have omega-6 in your pet’s diet, it is more important to have a balance. Omega-6 fatty acids are actually pro-inflammatory while the omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory. Adding a supplement higher in omega-3 helps balance out the omega-6 providing health benefits for the pet and better balanced diet.
Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for their overall health
Adding omega-3 fatty acids to your pets diet can be beneficial for their overall health. Salmon oil for dogs can be beneficial to dogs at all ages including puppies and seniors. Some of the benefits seen by providing a balanced diet with omega-3 fatty acids are:
- decreased allergies
- decrease in joint discomfort
- improved coat (reduced itching and flaking skin)
- improved heart health
- improved immune system
- improved cognitive function in senior canines
How do I chose the Omega-3 supplement?
For my pets, I have added a wild caught fish oil to their diets. By adding Wild Alaskan Salmon & Pollock Oil to your pet’s diet, you increase the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids achieving a ratio of 14:1. It is very important to use wild caught. The difference is that salmon and pollock caught in the ocean are living vibrant, healthy lives. Farm-raised salmon and pollock, on the other hand, are held in captivity (a large volume of fish in a small area), which causes substantial stress on those fish. That stress relates to the biochemicals that those fish release, so wild-caught salmon and wild-caught pollock provide a better fish oil than farm-raised. salmon.
By increasing the amount of good oils in your pet’s diet, you’re supporting overall optimum health for a healthy dog and cat, and a vibrant life! Salmon oil for dogs and cats is a no brainer!
